WORKSHOP I: Leveraging Your Information – “finding” your data and enabling a digital transformation
Date & Time
Tuesday, May 7, 2019, 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Description
Towns and municipalities strive to use information to support infrastructure planning, analysis and decision making. Too often information in held in separate systems or records could be useful to support asset management decisions, or municipalities are relying on old methods of collecting and tracking infrastructure information. Accessing this information and transforming it into digital knowledge can provide access to insights that can be used across the organization to improve infrastructure management and decision making. In this workshop we will review several examples of how municipalities have transformed information into valuable data to support their infrastructure decision making processes, and how they can enable this type of integration in the future. We will look at how information from traditional engineering sources can be transformed into infrastructure inventories. We will see how traffic signal data can be used to inform your pavement management program. We will look at simple GIS tools to enable field data collection, and see how small municipalities have leveraged cloud-based systems to consolidate their asset information into a robust digital spatial inventory and inspection system. We will then have a round-table with participants to see where they might be able to “find” information in their organizations and communities to support their on-going asset management programs, and how they can better leverage their own infrastructure management digital shift.
