How do municipalities decide which transportation assets to replace or upgrade: Random decisions? Age? Complaints? Learn how the City of New Westminster used existing GIS, infrastructure models, and asset management data to create a GIS-based infrastructure criticality and risk model for its transportation assets. Multiple data sources were streamlined into a single, clear, and meaningful Risk Model that significantly informs capital and operational planning. Learn about risk, how to calculate it, and how to reduce municipal infrastructure risk. AECOM worked with the City of New Westminster to develop a Transportation Asset Risk Model for the City’s roads and bridges, and other transportation assets such as street lights, sidewalks and signage. The lessons learned from this project will inform asset management plans and risk models for other departments, with the goal of ensuring a consistent and comparable ranking across all asset types, thereby aiding the City in making robust, defensible and risk-based asset decisions.
