Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has a portfolio of 1,015 small craft harbours nationally valued at more than $6 Billion.  The Gulf and Maritimes Region is home to more than 300 of these harbours, most of which are used by commercial fish harvesters. A pilot project was undertaken to explore how asset management could help DFO improve its long-term capital planning, to develop a financial plan for the small harbour wharfs in the Region and assess DFO’s asset management maturity. This pilot project will achieve quick wins with deliverables in both an analytical and strategic capability planning, while enabling DFO staff to familiarize themselves with the asset management approach.
