Name
13D: Implementing an Asset Management Program in a Small Town
Date & Time
Wednesday, May 8, 2019, 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Description
Located in Northwestern Ontario, the Town of Fort Frances – situated hours from metropolitan areas – exemplifies how imperative asset management is to the prosperity of small-town Canada. The Town and its history are driven primarily by the forestry and mining industry. With a declining population of under 7,500, Fort Frances grapples with old and deteriorating infrastructure as well as limited financial capacity. The Town of Fort Frances will present alongside their asset management consultants to chronicle how their small organization was able to develop and implement a strategic asset management program with limited capacity and capability. The presentation will first provide an overview of the Town’s asset management program and their progress thus far. The Manager of Operations and Facilities at the Town of Fort Frances will then describe how they gained buy-in from all municipal departments and council. To conclude the presentation, the asset management consultants will describe how this program can improve long-term municipal capital planning for Fort Frances.
