The Role of Procedural Rules in Meetings
Pat Knoll, Q.C., PRP
(Professional Registered Parliamentarian)

Presentation Overview:
Officials responsible for the organization, management, order and efficiency of meetings are often concerned with the role of procedural rules as a tool for bringing about meetings success. What rules to use, how to provide and use those rules, and what should be avoided, are commonplace inquiries that surface year after year.

It is to be expected from time to time (or regularly) that some attendees will leave at the close of a meeting discontent with results and decisions made by the assembly. However, no one should leave a meeting with the sense that the meeting was a disaster because those in charge failed to create transparency, order, efficiency, and fair play for the meeting. More often than not such results arise from inadequate pre-meeting planning and/or the absence of a basic statement of comprehensible procedural rules, or an inability to correctly apply rules that have been proposed - than otherwise.

Pat Knoll is a Professional Registered Parliamentarian with Knoll & du Plessix Parliamentarian Services.
