WORKSHOP IV: How to Structure a Centralized Asset Database: Supporting Data-driven Decision-making and Cross-departmental Collaboration in Asset Management
Date & Time
Wednesday, May 8, 2019, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Description
Through a hands-on demonstration of how to implement a centralized asset data hierarchy structure, workshop attendees will learn strategies for overcoming the data silos that exist between municipal departments, which contribute to the misaligned and decentralized asset databases that are far too common across local governments. Implementing a fully centralized asset database requires municipalities to develop one asset data hierarchy structure that provides common terminology and parameters for how each department collects, records and reports asset data. This standardized approach to asset data collection and management allows for the centralization of datasets from across diverse asset categories. The centralized database will then provide the organization with one common view of its entire asset inventory, supporting data-driven decision-making and cross-departmental collaboration in asset management.
