Sustainable financial modelling is a key component in asset management and often equated to budget allocation because of lack of understanding of the core concept. This presentation discusses the development of 2018 UBCM award winning Sustainable Financial Modelling of the City of Coquitlam. Coquitlam developed this 20 to 40-year model to ensure sustainability of asset employment in service delivery and to communicate the financial need in a transparent manner to all stakeholders. The presenter, with $8 billion asset dealing experience, will show how the model was developed for the various engineering assets, end to end, from asset inventory to Key-Performance indicator assessment. The presentation will showcase the presenter’s experiences: assumptions and concepts of modelling, financial gap analysis and bench mark setting. The audience will learn: a) Concepts related to medium to long-term sustainable financial modelling; b) How to develop the framework; c) Dos and Don’ts in model development; and d) How to correlate sustainable financial model to asset replacement model
