In 2014 New Brunswick’s local governments signed the Gas Tax funding agreement and in doing so, committed to begin infrastructure related asset management planning. Since then, the province’s Department of Environment and Local Government published a “guide to asset management planning” which set the minimum requirements for municipal asset management plans. The deadline for local governments to submit their plans was July 31, 2018. This presentation will highlight key components of the province’s asset management guide, present trends from the submitted plans, describe the strengths and weaknesses of local governments’ plans and give a broad overview of the next steps the province will be taking with respect to municipal asset management.
