Last year, the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) , in association with the Nova Scotia Asset Management Working Group, launched its first Pilot Project for data collection in small to medium sized municipalities to continue building asset management capacity within the province. The scope of the first Pilot included data collection and preliminary condition assessment support for linear assets. Since that time, the data collection tools and resources from the first Pilot were made available province-wide and have been incorporated into an associated infrastructure registry system that is intended to provide municipalities with a “one stop shop” for asset data storage and mapping. The outcomes of current registry initiatives are focused on minimizing existing barriers (e.g. financial, resource, and time) to further support the continued development of a standardized methodology for the collection, storage, and mapping of municipal asset data.
