Asset Management enables health care organizations to effectively manage their infrastructure to provide high quality and sustainable levels of service for patients and families. It also provides data driven reports to inform decision making for senior management, Board of Directors and assists with funding applications and external audits. The World Health Organization lists asset management as one of the pillars of its’ Accountability Framework. However, asset management is a relatively new concept for many health facilities. Palliative and hospice care is an essential service provided for people at the end of life, their families and the community. The North Okanagan Hospice Society has made great strides towards developing and implementing asset management practices. This session will show how asset management practices, such as gathering asset information, risk analysis and analyzing asset useful life, contribute to the expected levels of service for patients and family members.
