This session will explore the important next steps to link asset management and long term financial planning. Consideration needs to be given to utilizing forecast lifecycle costs from the asset management plan to ensure credible and reliable estimates in our long term financial plans (LTFP's). Trade-offs will be needed between levels of service, risks and the planned budget /LTFP; responsible use of debt is also a consideration.
The ultimate goal of asset management and long term financial planning is to support informed decision making within our organizations. A specific focus of the presentation will be the use of financial sustainability indicators to track, and target, trends over time to demonstrate the impacts of decision making on the financial bottom line.
Unless the asset management plan and the long term financial plan are communicating the same messages, and are in line with our strategic objectives, then we haven’t got the job done!
