AIM Network supports municipalities in Atlantic Canada with Asset Management planning. Most communities are in the beginning stages of Asset Management planning and are in need of an easy-to-use and low-cost solution that will help them getting started and grow their asset management program organically within their organisation. With this need in mind, AIM Network, through its Technical Committee, identified and facilitated the development of a collection of open source (free) software tools and methodologies (referred to as the AIMnet toolkit). The AIMnet tools are widely used by municipalities in Atlantic Canada and assist municipalities in making informed decisions with regard to Asset Management planning. AIMnet is a GIS-integrated, spreadsheet based solution that reports on replacement cost, condition, life expectancy and risk of all major asset groups. A number of case studies where AIMnet tools and methodologies were used will presented and lessons learned will be discussed.
