Ana Rentsch is a PhD candidate in the Department of Animal Bioscience at the University of Guelph. Her PhD project investigates the influence of different rearing aviary designs and genetic strains on laying hen development. She completed an MSc at the Center for Proper Housing: Poultry and Rabbits, ZTHZ Zollikofen, Switzerland, on the influence of keel bone fractures on laying hen behaviour in non-cage housing systems. Her interests are behavioural development, strain and individual variation, and how these traits relate to animal welfare.
