About the Event

The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) invites you to join us in Canmore for our upcoming Annual Conference – Cultivating Connections: Museums and the Environment – which will explore, consider, and celebrate the ways museums demonstrate sustainable practices while encouraging their communities to examine how they interact with and care for the environment.

An interdisciplinary panel will open the Conference on Friday morning, and return on Saturday afternoon to wrap-up with tangible takeaways at the closing plenary. In between, Conference sessions will examine sustainable practices in collections, preservation, and exhibit design, as well as how public programs, exhibitions, and partnerships that address environmental issues can broaden the museum’s impact and community engagement. Delegates should come prepared to participate in smaller, more conversational breakout sessions, including sessions that take place outside of the hotel.

Conference 2018 will also include a full-day Trade Show and reception with the exhibitors, along with evening events on both Thursday and Friday. Thursday night’s Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony will kick off the conference by celebrating the recipients of this year’s Leadership Awards and the Robert R. Janes Award for Social Responsibility, along with graduates from the Certificate in Museum Studies Program. On Friday night, we will head into Banff for an evening event hosted by the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies and the Canadian Rockies and the Cave and Basin National Historic Site of Canada – Parks Canada.
