In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the AHLA Board of Directors has decided to postpone Aspire and the Safey Summit.

We will reschedule this event for fall 2020, along with Aspire.  We will share the new conference date with you as soon as possible.

Safety Summit

Attend the AHLA’s Safety Summit on April 21 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel West Edmonton!

The AHLA’s Safety Summit features two training sessions for anyone in the hospitality industry focused on providing a safe and healthy work environment. Attending these sessions will increase your understanding of mental health injuries in the workplace, and will help you implement an effective health and safety management program that will save your company time and money. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The Summit takes place the day after Aspire, in the same location.

8 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Psychological Injuries in the Workplace

As a leader you need to understand what a psychological injury is so that you can mitigate risk at your property. This seminar will cover WCB policy and legislation related to psychological injuries, the claims decision making process, psychological injury treatment, and how to successfully support your workers through recovery — ultimately helping you to manage your claims costs.

Best for: Anyone interested in increasing their understanding of mental health injuries in the workplace.

1 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Controls

Accurately identifying, assessing, and controlling hazards is an essential part of a properly functioning health and safety management program. This course is designed to assist employers, managers, supervisors, and workers in making their worksites safer through education and implementation of effective methods of hazard identification, risk assessment, and controls.

Designated contacts for health and safety reponsibilities at each property are required to participate and successfully complete this course in order to meet the program requirements for Level 2 of the Hospitality Safety Leadership Certificate Program.

Best for: Key staff and anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of workplace health and safety.

The cost to attend the Safety Summit is $125 for AHLA safety subscribers and $200 for non-safety subscribers. (A safety subscriber is any property classified under the WCB code 87503).
