Speaker Bio
Jeff began his career in insurance in 2003 with ING, as an auto adjuster. Always the
innovator, he was involved with many special projects at ING, including overseeing
several catastrophic events, and deployment of a 24 hour emergency claims line. He
quickly rose through the ranks while studying for his CIP designation, and moved into
the role of Unit Manager in the casualty department in 2008. In 2010, deciding he
preferred to be in the field helping people, he took a step back and took a role as a
catastrophe field adjuster, where he honed his estimating skills including Vale
Estimating training and HAAG Engineering courses. In 2015, he was ready for a new
challenge, and became an Independent Adjuster at Kernaghan Adjusters, where he
handled several large accounts, inclusive of a large Property Management firm.
In 2019, with impending changes in condo legislation and rising deductibles, Jeff saw
a challenge on the horizon for Condo Boards: they don’t usually have the experience
to effectively determine appropriate restoration techniques and control costs. When a
loss occurs, negotiating with restoration contractors and providing oversight is
generally done by the adjuster. And so, Jeff launched Emergent Claims Services Inc.
Since opening in January, Emergent has:
• successfully worked with Condominium Corporations, their Boards, their
property managers, and restoration contractors to save over $200,000 for those
Corporations combined.
• Negotiated disagreements between Boards and Unit Owners regarding repairs
and responsibility;
• Consulted Corporations on recovering losses, and mitigating future exposures;
and,
• assisted by managing projects in order to ensure that matters are dealt with as
expeditiously as possible.
In his spare time, Jeff enjoys spending time with his family – his partner, Cathy, and
their two children, Zoey (5) and Elijah (1). He looks forward to teaching Zoey to
snowboard this winter.
