Meet Bonnie…

Bonnie Anderson is a partner in the Real Estate group of Dentons’ Calgary office. She is a key member of the Firm’s Municipal Planning and Land Development team.
Bonnie’s background in architecture, urban planning and law lends her a unique perspective for clients looking to successfully navigate the land development process. She routinely advises on a full range of municipal matters, including development permit applications and appeals, judicial reviews, negotiating conditions of approval and development agreements, and interpreting legislation and planning instruments.
She has appeared before municipal councils, Municipal Planning Commissions, Subdivision and Development Appeal Boards (SDAB), Municipal Government Board (MGB), Environmental Appeal Board (EAB), Court of Queen's Bench, and the Court of Appeal.

• Interpreting and amending municipal legislation and planning instruments – Municipal Government Act and development regulations; land use bylaws; direct control (DC) bylaws; municipal development plans (MDP); area structure or redevelopment plans (ARP/ASP); inter-municipal development plans (IDP); other municipal bylaws, resolutions, guidelines and policies

• Working with key members of the development team – Architects, Engineers, Surveyors, Planners, Developers and other experts

• Liaising with municipal administration, councilors, board members, provincial regulators, adjacent landowners and other relevant stakeholders

• Defending the enforcement of planning rules and regulations

• Challenging municipal decisions – judicial review applications and appeals

• Registering documents and subdivision plans; conducting historical research; processing applications (e.g., land accretion) at the Land Titles Office
