Description

In recent years, the relationship between museums and Indigenous communities in Canada has received a lot of attention. Museums have been identified as safe places where varying narratives of our history can be shared and explored. But how can we ensure that these relationships with local Indigenous communities are sustainable, and continue to benefit both communities?

In this presentation, speakers will discuss how the Peace River Museum, Archives & Mackenzie Centre began developing its relationships with the local Indigenous community and how museums can respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action in unique ways. This session will also explore the long-term goals the museum has to ensure that these relationships keep growing and evolving, and the challenges and opportunities associated with reaching those goals.
