Exhibits on a Shoestring: A Little Money and a Lot of Elbow Grease
Description

Many small museums have limited budgets, but lots of staff time or volunteer hours. With a lot of creativity (and in all honesty, a lot of elbow grease), you can turn an outdated or irrelevant space into something special. Over the course of a couple of months in the summer of 2019, and with the help of a couple of summer students, Amy transformed the Canmore Museum’s historic North-West Mounted Police barracks from what was essentially a dusty gift shop into a bright and engaging permanent exhibit and temporary exhibit space. Exhibits like these, that interest visitors as well as locals, are the heart and soul of a museum’s work, and this session will inspire and inform attendees on making exhibits that allow their organization to engage with community issues and interest without breaking the bank.
